MN Headhunter Take This Job And Shove It - Not A Great Exit Strategy
(AP Photo) This will shock those that know me but I think JetBlue guy, Steven Slater the now (in)famous Flight Attendant who slid down an emergency chute after having a couple of beers and telling everyone what he thought, is an idiot. This should not be celebrated. I am a BIG fan of telling people what you think but in a mature, responsible manner that (on infrequent occasion) may have a cuss word (only 1 cuss word) in it. Sometimes you have to let it out. But this goes way too far....

The Recruiters Lounge What Makes Employees Loyal?
In past generations it was very common for an employee to remain with one employer for his or her entire work life. These people were loyal to the companies that they worked for. They believed in what their company did and stood for. For this to happen today would be a rarity. Studies show that the typical person entering the [...]

Written by Liesl Batz, Executive Recruiter. Recruiting for the Twin Cities Asset Management community: Flyover country or diamond in the rough? Actually, I am happily established in [...]

MN Headhunter Facebook Gets 500 Million Users | Paul DeBettignies Interviewed On WCCO AM Radio
Back on July 22nd after Facebook hit the 500 million user mark I was interviewed by Mike Grimm on HINESight on WCCO AM radio. We spoke a bit about Facebook for personal and business use and the way companies are using it for recruiting. Of course we found a way to inject Gopher football into the conversation. Mike does the radio broadcast for Gopher football. Click the Play button to hear his show. Wait a few moments for it to load and then forward to the 58:20 mark. We go to 70:37.  ...

Recruitment Views Are we getting the most out of LinkedIn? The answer may surprise you!
What made me pose the question in the first place, was that while I was canvasing recruitment consultants within the driving/logistics market, I was amazed how few were actually using Linkedin or any form of social networking. I can understand that there will be very few lorry drivers who have a profile, but there are a few thousand decision makers! So I decided to look at a sector that would be more suited to using LinkedIn and decided to focus on REC members who specialise...

The Recruiters Lounge What is the Most Important Question You Can Ask in a Job Interview?
Over the decades I have asked many job seekers which questions are most important in the interview. Many answers come out, such as: · Why is this position open? · Is this a new position or a replacement? · What are you looking for in this position? · What are the long-term potentials of the position? · What are the [...]

The Hire Sense Too Many Gerunds
From a sales ad I just read (my editing): Experience in  building, hiring from scratching, coaching, training and developing the RAMs in the sale of _________ products. Perhaps this is some new interviewing technique – “If you could scratch one place on your body, what would that place be?”

Hire Strategies Hey you with the flashy career site.....
I am still asked "Who has the best career site?" There are many great looking sites but that means nothing if the owner has no idea about measurement and performance. Using a swimming analogy, the training needs to be specific for the race. Times show performance and levels of improvement. Training is tweaked accordingly based on results. And on it goes. Clear goals in mind, specific activities to improve performance, measures to show improvements/losses. Over the years I have worked with many...

The Hire Sense Of Objectivity
I preach this point from the mountaintop as often as possible so I’ll continue here – sales is the single most difficult position to hire in any company.  The reason is simple, accurately predicting sales success by discerning candidate capabilities is…well, often a crapshoot.  This fact is why it is imperative to use assessments to gain an understanding of what the candidate has “under their hood.” A prime example is emotional control.  Successful salespeople have this trait.  It...

Research Goddess One Big Rant (Yep, It’s Big!)
I got really, really fired up by a post I read last Friday that went completely off on social media, ‘snake oil salesmen’, training and certifications, and so forth. I won’t do it the honor of linking to it here, nor will I tell you where I saw it because I do not want to attract attention to it. So don’t ask. Just strap yourself in – I’m sharing my uncensored thoughts on several different issues here. Because, after all, everyone is entitled...

Shally's Blog Making Sense out of the Unemployment Numbers
I really like Bob Marshall's positivity regarding the unemployment rate so I thought I would share his message with you. This is what he wrote: Bob Marshall’s BLS Analysis 8/6/10 The unemployment rate is published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a division of the US Department of Labor. The rate is found by dividing the number of unemployed by the total civilian labor force. On August 6, 2010, the BLS published the most recent unemployment rate for July, 2010 of 9.5% (actually it is...

The Recruiters Lounge How to Fire an Employee – The Right Way
Many persons view termination of an employee as “no big deal,” however nothing can be further from the truth. Most managers are not all too happy about the aspect of firing an employee due to the ill side-effects such an action may cause. For example, firing an employee may result in a) The employee suing the company (if inappropriately handled); [...]

Hire Strategies Employer Brand + Facebook = Great Referral Model
I blogged about the concept of integrating a career site with a Facebook Page in February but this takes it a step further. A lot of people (job seekers and recruiters) feel Facebook is for Friends and Linkedin is for Business Contacts which I do accept. However, most of my friends have jobs and it is useful to know when they have moved. But also for an employer brand, if they could connect their career site with their new employees Facebook profiles they could do some clever communication activities...

Recruiter Guy You Aren't Tough Enough...
I'm calling you out.  Yeah, you.  I'm concerned that you aren't tough enough to help the Social Mudders team raise funds and awareness around the February race taking place in Austin, TX.  It's an event where proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Project - a foundation created to help wounded veterans.  I'm not saying you're not tough enough to actually take part in the 10 mile obstacle course that some of us have already promised to run... I'm saying that you're not tough enough...
