Can You See Me Know?
I love that I have two children that really embrace technology. It’s so interesting for me to see experience how they communicate with one another and their friends and family as a result of having so many communication channels at their fingertips (literally) 24/7. As a huge fan of video communications, it’s exciting to see signs that video is beginning to trump even SMS for quick and immediate communication in some instances. Need a real-life and easy example to help illustrate... |

Extending Friday (or: My Favorite Chrome Extensions)
Okay, maybe I need a catchier headline for this series but man, I love my+Google Chrome extensions. So much so, that I thought I’d get into the habit of shooting out a quick message each Friday to share what helps me get more out of my time spent on the web. To kick off this new weekly ritual, I’m sharing my favorite when it comes down to digesting video on YouTube. The “Auto HD For YouTube” forces all YouTube videos to start playing in HD and provides me the additional... |

Speaking Events in 2012
This week alone I’ve had almost a dozen conversations with people that were either asking me to speak at an event or inquiring as to what events I’ll be attending this year. I love these conversations (they’re of course good for the #ego) but I’ve found that they sometimes end with the same topic and shared feelings about making these selections – regardless of what side of the stage we might be on. We’ve an interesting array of options related to how/where... |

Mapping Your Connections in G+
No matter what you call them or how you manage them, it’s now a simple matter of installing this nifty little +Google Chrome plugin to map the people in your circles within G+. It’s a quick and easy install, that presents itself as a link on the left side of your profile, just at the bottom of your Streams. So as I take a look at the geography covered by people within my #Recruiters and Recruiting Vendors circles (shown here,) I’m presented with markers on an actual Google... |

Circle Back to Google
Looking for people who work at Google? Here’s a great circle that’s a strong addition to any search you’ve already performed on Google Plus and that I’d include with any other search for Googlers that you’ve already conducted. What’s interesting to me (and that I’m getting around to pointing out) is that whether you’re just looking to expand your network as a member of Google+ or actively #recruiting and #sourcing online, I believe that you’ll... |

Google Plus vs. Facebook (it’s only just started)
A solid article hit my inbox last week from +Business Insider that calls out a few points some of us have shared with our peers over the last few months. It isn’t necessarily about the time people are spending on Facebook that should urge you to proclaim a winner in this Social Network comparison. Don’t forget a few points (that are called out very nicely in the linked BI article.) Google’s revenue will be 10x that of Fb in 2011 People don’t typically “Facebook”... |

Your Opinion of Me…
Starting off the new year, I can’t get something out of my head that was posted by +Brian Rose last month… (his pictures on G+ really kick ass, btw.) It resonates with me on both a personal and professional level and even though I may be using it slightly out of context, because I can’t recall the exact delivery in which it was received or if it was his words or a quote he was sharing, it’s likely to be something of a mantra for me this year. It was simply, “Your... |

Your Google Circles Influence Results
You do know that who you have in your circles does impact your search results in Google, right? C’mon… you knew that…. right? It’s one of the reasons many of the big brands are getting engaged so early (and quickly) with G+. In fact, a recent article on +Business Insider revealed that 45% of online retailers have +1 buttons vs. a 40% count of retailers with a Facebook ‘like’ button. This is called “social signals” and it’s a good thing… Being... |

Google Plus Notifier
Stacking on top of yesterday’s G+ post (http://goo.gl/VOxZK) regarding the Fb IM app, I thought I’d share a little gem that’s helping you stay “up to date” on G+. (in the event you don’t want to keep a pesky tab open or rely on your mobile for notifications) Introducing G+ Notifier (for Windows.) Once installed, you’ll receive a settings window that lets you select how the system tray’s icon behaves as well as how you’ll receive updates to... |

The Zen of Communication
It’s that time of year when I radically revamp my blog, update profile pictures and re-define/re-visit my social workflow. I’ll typically spend a good part of holiday time and early January doing this – yet this year, I feel compelled to take a slightly different approach. You see, for the past few years I’ve struggled to get (most specifically) my Google and Google Apps accounts to play nicely together in my own workflow. I’ve longed for the day that I’d have... |

Connections & Bookshelves… (random thoughts from The RecruiterGuy)
As I was thinking about a challenge today related to connections, I found myself staring at one of the bookshelves in my office. So I took a picture of one of the shelves just to share it with you (it’s above.) In looking at them, I find they’re full of books related to both personal and professional interests and that range from really old to relatively new. I also see some clutter, memorabilia, and seemingly random, “stuff.” (Nope, I didn’t clean it for ya’... |

Recruiting Industry Events & Observations – Fall 2011
I’ve just wrapped up what is essentially 7 weeks on the road. While the 7 weeks wasn’t constant travel (I was home ~2-3 days a week) it certainly began to push the limits of my working rhythm. Of course, for those of you that travel considerably, you know the rhythm of which I’m referring to. Moving scheduled calls to unreal hours of the morning, answering emails in between learning sessions, catching up on most issues while in-flight and taking the urgent calls as they... |
